Bulgaria earned its Eurovision moment when DARA won the contest in Vienna, and now the country has to answer the most exciting logistical question that victory brings: which city actually gets to throw the party? As of July 3, 2026, four Bulgarian cities have officially submitted their bids to host Eurovision 2027, and the competition at home is already heating up.
Who Is in the Running?
According to Dariknews, the four cities that submitted formal candidacy documents to Bulgarian National Television (BNT) are Burgas, Varna, Plovdiv, and Sofia. All four had previously signaled their interest, and the deadline confirmed that none of them blinked. The mayor of Burgas, Dariknews reports, marked the moment with what can only be described as an enthusiastic social media post, complete with the word "Bangaranga" and a rather unconventional coffee.
The selection process now moves into an evaluation phase. BNT Director General Milena Milotinova stated, as reported by Dariknews, that the broadcaster is not simply looking for a venue but for a city-partner willing to go the full distance through to May 2027. A working group set up by BNT began evaluating the bids from Monday, using the standards and criteria of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the organisation that owns and oversees Eurovision.
How the Decision Gets Made
Dnevnik reports that the working group will assess proposals against EBU standards, meaning the chosen city will need to demonstrate suitable arena capacity, infrastructure, broadcasting facilities, and the broader logistical muscle to support one of the largest live television productions in the world. The winning city is expected to be announced before the end of July.
The Bulgarian government has already adopted an action plan for the preparation and staging of Eurovision 2027, with the document setting out specific tasks, deadlines, responsible institutions, and expected outcomes, all coordinated through an official organising committee, according to Dariknews.
