Every World Cup produces surprise stars, and one name that drew attention at this summer's tournament was Vozinha, the goalkeeper for Cape Verde's national team. Gong reports that his next club is confirmed: Chile's Colo-Colo.

A 40-year-old goalkeeper's moment in the spotlight

Vozinha is 40 years old. The Cape Verde shot-stopper drew attention at World Cup 2026 with performances that surprised casual fans who had not previously followed him. Before the tournament, he had left Portuguese side Chaves as a free agent after two seasons there, making him available for a new club.

According to Gong, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed a verbal agreement is in place between Vozinha and Colo-Colo. The paperwork was expected to be signed over the weekend, with medical tests to follow. Colo-Colo is the most successful club in Chilean football history and plays its home matches at the Estadio Monumental in Santiago.

What the move means for the player

Cape Verde is a small Atlantic archipelago nation whose players compete across Europe and South America. Vozinha left Chaves without a club, then turned in a strong World Cup tournament, and now has a contract offer from a club with continental ambitions.

At 40, most professional goalkeepers have already retired. His performances at World Cup 2026 have brought him a contract at a club that plays in front of large crowds in a competitive South American league, a different environment from Portuguese football.

The documents were not yet signed at the time of reporting, but Gong notes the move was expected to be formalised quickly.
